The Hurricanes American Football Team has a strong tradition both at the University of Hertfordshire and nationally. Now entering the seventeenth year of operation, the Hurricanes are a powerhouse of the national university league, and hold a record breaking 4 National Championships, 5 Southern Conference Championships and 11 Eastern Division titles.
The team has excellent facilities and coaching support, led by top British American Football Coach, Jim Messenger. No previous experience is required (most new team members will never have played the game before), and players are provided with all the equipment they need to play.
Trials are held during the first week of term. You must pre-register to attend at either the AU Sports Fair on Wednesday 29 September or the SU Fresher’s Fair on Friday 1 October where you will be given further information.
The Hurricanes compete in the BUAFL (British University American Football League). The league runs through the Autumn and Spring terms with the best teams from each region progressing to knock-out style play-offs for the national title in March and April.
The Hurricanes play on Sunday afternoon, where all home games are held on our high quality 3rd generation rubber crumb pitch at the Sports Village.
Tuesdays, 20.30 - 22.00, All Weather Pitch, Roberts Way, College Lane.
Thursdays, 19.00 - 21.00, Outdoor Pitches, Hertfordshire Sports Village, de Havilland Campus.
Sundays, 12.00 - 15.00, Outdoor Pitches, Hertfordshire Sports Village, de Havilland Campus (only when it's not gameday).
