The University of Hertfordshire Canoe Club are a friendly club who meet on Wednesday afternoons at 1.00pm outside the Forum on the College Lane campus. The club then travels to a number of local venues including Harefield (Grand Union Canal), Hertford Loop, Thames Valley Weir playspots (Hurley, Chertsey and Shepperton) and Stanborough Lakes for coaching.
In addition the club carries out a number of club trips around the country. White water trips leads the club to Wales, Devon, Scotland and more. The Club also does some kayak surfing and enter competitions including Polo, Slalom and Freestyle.
The club also has a fun and active social content, regularly making use of the Student Union as well as local recreation and entertainment facilities.
All are welcome to join, regardless of whether you are a complete novice or an experienced whitewater paddler. All you need to bring is a towel, change of clothes and not mind geting wet!
The Canoe Club does not hold trials and welcomes all levels of paddler, from experienced to complete beginner. However members must be confident swimmers.
The Canoe Club compete in various National University Canoe Championships managed by BUCS, NSR and other student events. These include Polo, Slalom, White water and Freestyle competitions.

Training takes place every Wednesday at local rivers, canels and lakes in the Thames Valley area.

In the first few weeks the club aims to introduce new paddlers to basic paddling techniques and water safety. This continues throughout the year and enables paddlers to advance to be safe and competent, well rounded canoeists and kayakers. As experience increases the club is able to visit a wider range of sites, constantly finding new challenges and opportunities to improve, as well as keeping a constant level of interest.
The Canoe Club is coached by experienced and qualfied coaches who can teach on both flat and white water.
