TEAM PHOTOS
WEDNESDAY 16TH FEBRUARY 2011
Every year, members of the Athletic Union Sports Clubs are given the opportunity to have a set of professional photos taken to keep as a memento of their year spent representing the University of Hertfordshire. Takethatphoto, a highly reputable and professional photography company, visit the Sports Village for the day to take the photos of all 29 of our Sports clubs. Pictures are available for purchase on campus a week later, mounted in a University of Hertfordshire photo mount with all names of the students presented on the bottom of the photograph.
The photographs are taken and presented in a very professional manner and are a lovely souvenir of the year just past.
Takethatphoto are also the official photographers for the annual Colours Awards Ceremony.
VARSITY
WEDNESDAY 6TH APRIL 2011
Varsity is the biggest sporting event of the year which involves a sporting battle between the University of Hertfordshire and the University of Bedfordshire. It takes place annually in April, once British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) fixtures are completed. The venue alternates yearly between the two Universities with 2011 being held at the University of Bedfordshire.
Varsity was started in 2010 and the score currently rests at 1-0 to the University of Hertfordshire. Fourteen sports teams took part in 5 competitive sports including badminton, football, hockey, rugby and squash as well as teams taking part in social sports including dodgeball and rounders. Over 200 people took part last year and we hope that more students will be involved next year when we try to retain our title!
Varsity will be the greatest sporting day you will participate in at University so make sure you get involved. If you don’t want to compete then come and support the teams as it is a great social day with loads to get involved in.
COLOURS AWARDS
THURSDAY 5TH MAY 2011
The Colours Awards is an annual event which celebrates the successes and achievements of UH sport over the past academic year.
The evening (which is a set fixture in the UH sporting calendar) is dedicated to all who are involved in sport at UH - sports club members, individual athletes and coaches. Awards are bestowed to athletes and clubs for such things as showing outstanding sporting achievement, regional or national representation and for upholding the spirit of the Athletic Union.
The ceremony is held at the impressive Tewin Bury Farm in Tewin, near Welwyn, where guests are met with a fully stocked bar, a 3-course meal and entertainment throughout. All topped off with a DJ to dance the night away.
Students are offered transport to and from the event in an effort to ensure that everyone attending arrives to and leaves the venue safely.
For more information on any of the above events, please contact the Athletic Union on 01707 281180 / 01707 281181.
