Q. Why should I visit Hertfordshire Sports Village?
A. Hertfordshire Sports Village is a state-of-the-art sports facility with something to offer everyone, from complete beginners to elite and professional sports people. Whatever your sport or preferred activity, you will have the opportunity to enjoy great quality sports, health & fitness facilities and services.
Q. Hertfordshire Sports Village is situated on the new de-Havilland campus, does this mean it is just for the University to use?
A. Principally for student use, the sports village is also open to the local community who can access the facilities and services available on a pay-as-you go or membership basis. At some times certain areas of the sports village are used exclusively by university and community sports clubs, which may limit casual use. For further information on availability of specific facilities and services, please contact reception.
Q. What facilities does the Sports Village have?
A. Hertfordshire Sports Village boasts a wide range of state-of-the art facilities for fitness, swimming, climbing, racquet sports, football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and much more. Please visit our facilities pages for a full list of the facilities available at Hertfordshire Sports Village.
Q. Do you have to be a member to use the facilities at the Sports Village?
A. No. There are a number of different payment options that permit access to various facilities at Hertfordshire Sports Village. Centre membership entitles users to member discounted rates on all activities on a pay & play session-y-session basis (excluding the gym). This type of membership is ideal for people using the non-health & fitness facilities on a regular basis and is available from less than £1 per week. For those that wish to use the Health & Fitness facilities there are two payment options. We offer unlimited access on a pay-as-you-go basis and limited pre-paid memberships (subject to availability). Q. Can I park at Hertfordshire Sports Village?
A. Student members cannot park at the de Havilland Campus between the hours of 08.00am and 5.00pm weekdays but are able to park outside of the these hours. Secure free parking is available for external members and users of Hertfordshire Sports Village when displaying a valid parking permit.
Q. How can I get to Hertfordshire Sports Village without a Car?
A. The sports village is served with regular public transport with a free park & ride scheme operating between the Campus and the town centre. Buses number 341, 600, 602, 622 and 634 serve the campus every 10 minutes.
Q. How much does it cost to use Hertfordshire Sports Village?
A. There are various types of membership available at Hertfordshire Sports Village. Centre membership provides discounts on pay and play use and provides advanced booking and payment privileges. For those that wish to use the health & fitness facilities there are two payment options. We offer unlimited access on a pay-as-you-go basis and limited pre-paid memberships (subject to availability). In addition, swim only and climbing memberships are available offering unlimited use of the pool and the climbing wall respectively. Non-members can use certain pay and play activities but there will be a guest fee of £1 for each non-member. Q. Can I book activities by phone or do I have to attend in person?
A. Members can book any activity up to 7 days in advance by phone or in person and pay for that activity at the time they attend. Non-members have to pay for all bookings at the time the booking is made, must make all bookings in person (we do not accept telephone bookings from non-members) and can only book 6 days in advance.
Q. Can people with disabilities access Hertfordshire Sports Village?
A. People with disabilities can access all areas of Hertfordshire Sports Village and use all the services available. There is a disabled lift for ease of movement around the site.
Q. I am a student of another University but live in Hertfordshire. Can I use Hertfordshire Sports Village when I am home from University?
A. Yes. As a non-member you can use all pay & play activities but will be charged the non-member rate. We also offer special student summer memberships for Vision Health & Fitness which cover membership of our gym, pool and classes from the start of the summer holidays right the way through to the end of September each year.
